Welcome to the official site for City of Dryden Municipal Elections. Municipal Elections in Ontario are governed under the Ontario Municipal Elections Act, 1996, as amended, and "shall be held in 2006 and in every fourth year thereafter." In addition following recent amendments to the Municipal Elections Act as identified under Section 21 of the Good Government Act, Municipal Elections in Ontario will now be conducted on the fourth Monday of October from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Therefore, the 2010 Municipal Elections will be held on Monday, October 25, 2010.
Municipal Elections are administered by the Municipal Clerk, who acts as the Returning Officer under the authority of the Municipal Elections Act. Within the City of Dryden, Municipal Elections are conducted to fill the office of Council and school board trustees. The Act also applies when a by-law is submitted for the assent of electors at an election or when the opinion is sought on any question required or authorized by law to be submitted at an election.

The Clerk will also be appointing additional personnel as required to assist with the 2010 Municipal Elections.
Message from Your Returning Officer:
As your Returning Officer for the 2010 Municipal Elections and on behalf of the Municipal Election Team, we are committed to ensuring that these elections will be conducted with the utmost integrity and commitment to maintain the following principles for all municipal elections in Ontario:
(a) The secrecy and confidentiality of the individual votes is paramount; (b) The election should be fair and non-biased; (c) The election should be accessible to the voters; (d) The integrity of the process should be maintained throughout the election; (e) There be certainty that the results of the election reflect the votes cast; and, (f) Voters and candidates should be treated fairly and consistently within a municipality.
I encourage everyone to become an active participant in the upcoming election, be it as a candidate or eligible voter or an interested observer. Remember to exercise your right to vote in the upcoming municipal election. Be aware of the notices and information that is available to you, contact your municipal office for any questions you may have, and ensure your name is on the voters' list when it is made available for public viewing. Let's work together to increase our voter turnout and be the highest in our region or all of Ontario. Remember everyone this is "Your community...Your City...Your Vote!"

Offices to be elected:
In 2010, qualified electors will vote for Mayor and six members of Council for the term December 1, 2010 to November 30, 2014.
The 2010 Municipal Election will also includes the election of school board trustees to the following Boards:
English Public School Board Trustee – one (1) to be elected (Keewatin-Patricia District School Board)
English Separate School Board Trustee - two (2) to be elected (Northwest Catholic District School Board) for the City of Dryden, Municipality of Machin, Unorganized Areas of Machin TSA, Dryden Locality, Van Horne and Wainwright (St. Joseph’s School - Dryden)
French Public School Board Trustee - one (1) to be elected (Conseil Scolaire Public du Grand Nord de’l’Ontario)
French Separate School Board Trustee – one (1) to be elected (Conseil Scolaire de Catholique Des Aurores Boreales) for the jurisdiction west of Thunder to Dryden including the municipalities of Atikokan Ignace, Sioux Lookout, Pickle Lake, Dryden and unincorporated areas within this new jurisdiction.

Posting of Notices and Information: Information regarding the 2010 Municipal Election will be posted to this section of the City of Dryden website on an ongoing basis. As well, Municipal Election notices and information for candidates and electors will also be posted or made available in hard copy at the following locations:

Dryden Public Library 36 Van Horne Avenue Dryden, ON P8N 2A7 Summer Hours: Monday - Wednesday: 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Friday - Saturday: 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Sunday: Closed
In addition to the Clerk's Office at City Hall, the Dryden Public Library will be a key repository of information to ensure all voters and candidates can access up-to-date information regarding the 2010 Municipal Elections. Notices will also be advertised through a variety of other means including in the City News Section of the local paper and radio.
