Co-op Placement Program

At the City of Dryden, there are many opportunities for students to enhance their skills. The Co-op Student Placement program allows students to explore and work in various fields, assisting them in gaining experience in the workforce as they make important decisions about their educational career paths.

Who is Eligible?

The Co-op student placement program is open to senior Dryden High School students and provides an opportunity for students to extend classroom learning to supervised placements with the City of Dryden while earning Co-op credits towards their OSSD.

Students that are interested in applying for positions should:

  •  Speak to their Co-op Monitors/Supervisors
  •  Discuss their areas of interest and abilities to ensure an appropriate placement
  •  Complete a City of Dryden Co-op Student Placement Program Application Form
  •  Application deadline is February 19, 2010 -NOW CLOSED

Once I have decided on a placement, how do I apply?
Just complete the attached City of Dryden Co-op Placement Program Application and sent it to the HR Advisor at the City of Dryden.

What Placements Are Available? 
Students may apply for any of the positions below. Once the applications are received by the HR Department, they will be forwarded on to the appropriate department managers for review and consideration. From there, department managers will set up interviews for those interested students. All students who are interviewed will be notified if they were successful in getting a placement.

Semester 2- DHS Placement Opportunities Winter/Spring 2010:

Dryden Police Service - To assist the Community Services Officer in the delivery of educational safety concerns, crime prevention, public and media relation's components to the community in the Dryden Police Service area. Required skills include ability to take direction, good communication skills both written and oral, adhere to Police Service Safety Regulations and shall be proficient in Microsoft Applications. Applicants must be 18 years of age with interest in post secondary studies related to law enforcement considered perferrable.

City Hall Administration Department - To assist with clerical duties and responsibilities
in the Administration Department. Required skills include ability to work independently, good organization skills, good communication skills both oral and written, demonstrated customer service skills and proficient in Microsoft applications.

Public Works - Mechanic's Assistant - To assist with the daily needs and maintenance of the garage and city vehicles. Required skills include ability to work independently, ability to take direction, good organizational and communication skills, both oral and written, proficient in computer operations and must have demonstrated mechanical, technical or automotive skills.

Dryden Fire Service - To assist the Deputy Chief with the physical care of trucks, equipment and fire hall and to check, test and maintain such. To assist the Education Officer with public education programs. Required skills include ability to take direction, good communication skills both oral and written, adhere to Fire Safety Regulations and proficient in Microsoft applications.

Children's Resource Centre and Best Start Programs

(a) Working with children -  To assist with the care and supervision of children ages - 0 to 10 years of age. Required skills include experience working with children. Successful applicant must complete a criminal background check (at their own expense) and obtain a medical form prior to start date.

(b) Kitchen/Housekeeping - To assist kitchen staff with daily kitchen and housekeeping duties including pre and final preparations of food. Required skills include ability to work independently or in a team setting, good communication skills both oral and written, ability to perform safe food handling procedures.

(c) Clerical - To assist clerical staff with daily duties and responsibilities. Required skills include ability to work independently, good communication skills both oral and written, good organizational skills, demonstrated experience in customer service and proficient in Microsoft applications.

Application - Students may select up to three options for their placements. Simply fill out the application and return it to Kathy McMonagle, HR Advisor, City of Dryden.
