For Information, please call: (807) 223 - 5724
Background In 1998, Mayor Roger Valley established the Mayor's Committee for Children and Youth, in order to assess services to children/youth, in the Dryden area. A Universal Recreation committee was formed to address the issue of providing the opportunity for children and youth facing financial barriers, to participate in local recreational activities. Since its formation, the committee has provided financial assistance for cultural and recreational activities to over 300 children per year.
Who We Are Our members are representatives of agencies and community groups serving children, youth and their families in Dryden and the surrounding area. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to take part in activities which assist in developing both the body and the mind.
We are committed to providing the financial resources to make this possible. How?
- Children in need of financial assistance are referred by community agencies and community groups.
- Parents are assisted with the completion of an application for their children's participation.
- Agencies are notified of the committee's decision.
- Parents receive a letter authorizing that costs will be paid by the committee.
- Parents are responsible for registering their child in the requested activity.
- Parents are responsible for ensuring that their child attends the activity regularly.
EligibilityConsideration for sponsorship is given to the children and youth who are not currently participating in paid recreation programs. Children are allowed to access one (1) long term activity per season. Consideration for assistance may be given for one-time activities/events. Consideration is also to be given to children who may require assistance with transportation, registration and/or equipment costs.
