The Dryden Fire Service hosts annual events in recognition of Fire Prevention Week. These include fire truck displays and demonstrations at Wal-Mart and Canadian Tire. The Dryden Fire Service also holds tours of the Firehall for Dryden area schools throughout the week. The tours include looking through all of the trucks, watching a video, a visit from ‘Sparky’ the fire dog and practicing an escape from our ‘Smoke House’ simulation. During last year’s Fire Prevention Week, approximately 500 children toured the Firehall.
Our main event to promote fire prevention in Dryden is our ‘Open House’ held on the Wednesday during the annual 'Fire Prevention Week'. The open house is at the Firehall (189 Colonization Ave) and features a free hot dog barbecue, fire truck displays, free draws, an auto extrication demonstration and assorted informational handouts. The night also features visits from ‘Sparky’ the fire dog & ‘Smokey Bear’.
Fire Prevention Week is held annually during the week of October 9th to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, which accounted for 250 deaths and destroyed 17,430 buildings. The aim of National Fire Prevention Week is to increase public awareness of fire safety and the prevention of fire-related injuries, deaths, and property damage by promoting fire prevention strategies.
