Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay

On November 21, 2008, an announcement was made by Mayor Anne Krassilowsky that the City of Dryden has the tremendous honour of being recognized as a 2010 Olympic Torch Relay Route Celebration Community.   The announcement was made to a packed auditorium of young students by Mayor Anne Krassilowsky.  (insert picture of auditorium audience)

Residents of the City of Dryden anxious to catch the Olympic Spirit will
have the opportunity to see the Olympic Flame in person on Monday, January 4, 2010 as it passes through on its way towards the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. The  2010 Olympic Torch Relay, presented by Coca-Cola and RBC, will reach over 90 percent of Canadians within a one-hour drive. Information regarding the torch relay route is available at the OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY WEBSITE and information on how residents can apply to be Torchbearers can be found at icoke.ca and rbc.com/carrythetorch.

Mayor Krassilowsky commented “The City of Dryden is absolutely thrilled to be a bright light in the string of Northern Lights that forms the path of the 2010 Olympic Torch as it weaves its way across our great country on its way to Vancouver. As we celebrate the Olympic Flame coming to Dryden, so can our athletes set their goals to follow the Olympic Flame … from the Stadium to the Podium, from the Games to the Medals; Dryden joins the Spirit of the Olympics and we say – Reach for your dream, Achieve the Possible.” (insert picture in front of City Hall Flag)

The City of Dryden has established a 2010 Olympic Torch Relay Task Force to begin planning to celebrate the Flame's arrival in our community.  The momentous event will provide our children with the opportunity to learn what the journey to the 2010 Winter Games means for the aspiring athletes and how that translates into everyday life.   Our participation in this event will leave an enduring and profound legacy that will continue well after the Flame is extinguished in 2010.

The City will continue to update this section of the website to keep you informed of celebration plans, significant events and opportunities as we countdown the Flames arrival in our community on January 4, 2010.

As the Flame winds its way across the country in the longest Olympic Torch Relay ever, it will ignite the anticipation that will grow to incredible heights as all of us prepare to welcome the Flame and showcase Dryden to Canada and the world.
