Transportation for Seniors and the Disabled
Handi-Transit is a convenient door to door transportation for seniors and the disabled. It’s available to anyone whose disability prevents them from using conventional transportation.
Disabled persons means anyone, who without difficulty or with dignity cannot use conventional transportation, permanent or temporary. Handi-Transit is a non-profit service operated by the Dryden Handicapped Association. It is overseen by a board of directors. The service is funded by the City of Dryden and by proceeds from user fees. It consists of one lift equipped bus that can accommodate 4 wheelchairs and 12 ambulatory passengers.
Fares and Hours of Service
One-way trip: Passengers - $3 Attendants (needed to help you travel) - $3 After hours rate - $4.25
Hours of Service: Monday – Friday Office 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Bus 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Advance bookings are required for this service. Please call a minimum of 24 hours and up to one week to book your rides. Subject to availability. You are allowed to bring on board that which you can carry. For after hours or special trips, please contact the office.
Door to Door Service
Handi-Transit provides transportation from accessible door to accessible door. For safety reasons, drivers cannot be expected to maneuver wheelchairs up and down stairs or unsafe ramps.
Seniors Shuttle Service
Designated Route from Senior Buildings to designated retail locations Monday to Friday Free of Charge
When The Bus Arrives
Please be at the accessible pickup point at the time the bus is scheduled to arrive. The driver can wait only five minutes past your scheduled time. Keep in mind that others are waiting.
If you reserve your trip, Handi-Transit will advise you of the fare. Drivers do not make change so please have the exact fare ready. There are no charges "on account".
If the bus is late please be patient. Weather, heavy traffic, or an emergency may have delayed the bus. Wait 15 minutes then call the Handi-Transit Office.
Passengers unable to care for themselves who travel without an attendant must be met by a caregiver, parent, or other responsible person at the destination. Handi-Transit is not a taxi service but a shared ride public transit system. Other passengers will be picked up and dropped off enroute.
