Cultural Mapping is a systematic approach to identifying and recording the cultural resources or assets of a community. It has two dimensions:
- Resource Mapping - identifying and recording physical (or tangible) cultural resources making use of GIS tools and platforms
- CommunityI dentity Mapping- exploring 'intangible cultural resources' - the unique histories, values, traditions and stories that combine to define a community.
The standardized categories for resource mapping are identified in the Cultural Resource Framework and include:
