Arena Expansion Groundbreaking
The City of Dryden is pleased to announce ground-breaking activities for the Dryden Arena Expansion Project. The expansion is part of multi component project that includes mechanical retrofits, roofing replacements and the introduction of a combined heat and power generator system. The initiative is the result of a successful application to the Infrastructure Canada Improvement Program that was originally announced in March 2021. The total funding award for the project is $4.91 million.
“The Dryden Recreation Centre Expansion and Mechanical Retrofit Project will ensure the long-term sustainability of the facility while improving both efficiencies and accessibility for our residents and visitors. We remain most grateful for the support of both the Federal and Provincial governments in bringing these long-awaited projects to life.”, said Mayor Greg Wilson.
“The 2-story expansion of the Dryden Arena is great news for the people of Dryden”, said Greg Rickford, MPP for Kenora-Rainy River. “Our government is enhancing community infrastructure to promote healthier and more vibrant communities. Having four fully accessible dressing rooms and a second level that offers a community meeting space will allow more people to come together as a community and enjoy the arts and recreation programming Dryden has to offer.”, added MPP Greg Rickford.
The 2-story expansion will see the development of 4 fully accessible dressing rooms and a second level that offers a community meeting space designed to support special event hosting and offer an increased range of arts, culture, and recreation programming. The expansion is scheduled to be complete and available for use by the 2022-23 ice season.
