This study will assess the viability of the proposed development of a regional food and aggregation hub location at Dryden Regional Airport. This hub would supply support to a wide range (small to medium sized) of local and regional agricultural producers, allowing them to expand their distribution network into new markets across Northwestern Ontario and beyond. The goal of the aggregation part of the hub would be to facilitate increased market access, packaging, and ordering activities for many of the producers who currently must lead these activities individually, in addition to being a producer. It is envisioned that the hub will service Indigenous and Non-Indigenous communities, businesses, and clients, and play a key role in developing reliable, and greater, access to high quality, local and regional supply of food in rural and remote communities. Making strides towards reducing food prices across Northwestern Ontario.

The City of Dryden is looking to develop a comprehensive Economic Development and Tourism strategy that will guide our Community Development Department over the next five years. This new strategy will provide the Department, and the community, a foundation on which we can continue to grow and prosper. It will establish strong strategic directions, realistic actions, and a five-year implementation plan. Additionally, performance metrics for the plan will be established that align with the City’s current Community Strategic Plan, Community Capacity Study, and Business Gap Analysis. This strategic planning effort should align with provincial and regional economic development and tourism efforts such as the Dryden Trailblazer Tourism Association, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), FedNor, Regional Tourism Organization 13(C) (Destination Northern Ontario & Sunset Country), the Ontario Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries, Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. Additionally, this plan will take into consideration the strategic direction and input of our community business support stakeholders such as the Dryden District Chamber of Commerce, Northern Policy Institute, Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre, Patricia Area Community Endeavours, Northwest Business Centre, Northwest Training and Adjustment Board, Confederation College, and Lakehead University.

RFP Information:
Throughout 2022, the City of Dryden conducted a Community Capacity Study accompanied by a business gap analysis. A key outcome of the Community Capacity Study identified a need to enhance outdoor spaces in the City of Dryden, specifically event and gathering space. Additionally, the City conducted a Trails Feasibility Study to investigate the possibilities surrounding the expansion of the City’s Signature Trail System. In 2022, the City of Dryden was granted access to a parcel of land close to downtown and connected to the Signature Trail System.
Scatliff + Miller + Murray:
New Outdoor Venue - A place to connect, gather, and celebrate!
The City of Dryden is developing a new outdoor venue along the riverfront in the heart of downtown. This is an exciting new space to bring the community together and celebrate the unique identity of Dryden! The first phase of the project is the development of a concept plan to imagine what this space could be.
To support the design of the concept, the City wants to hear your input! We want to learn what is important to you and what will bring you to this event space in the future.
