Have you been charged with a provincial offence? The information below will help you pay your fine, request a trial or plead guilty.
Pay a fine | ||||||||
There are a number of ways to pay a fine related to a provincial offence.
|
||||||||
Plead guilty (reduced fines or more time to pay)
If you do not wish to fight the charge listed on your provincial offence notice (ticket) but want to ask for reduced fine or more time to pay the fine, you can schedule an appointment with a Justice of Peace please contact the office at 807-223-1429 for available times. Please note that a Justice of the Peace cannot remove or reduce the demerit points. |
||||||||
Plead not guilty (request a trial)
If you wish to dispute the charge on your provincial offence notice, you must include your signature on the back of your notice, in the space available under Option 3 of your notice. You must also confirm that your mailing address listed on the notice is also correct. Mail or email poa@dryden.ca your original signed document to the office indicated on the notice. You will receive a notice of trial indicating the time, date and location of your trial. |
||||||||
Failure to respond | ||||||||
Once 45 days has passed from the time you received the offence notice (or ticket), the charge will be placed on a Fail to Respond list and a Justice of the Peace will review the offence notice and may convict you in absentia. Once you have been convicted it is too late to choose any of the options indicated on the back of your notice (ticket). A Notice of Fine and due date will be sent to the address noted on your ticket upon conviction by the Justice of Peace. |
||||||||
Late payments | ||||||||
If you do not pay your fine (or miss your payment deadline), the following actions may be taken:
If a driver's licence suspension has been ordered, you must pay the total amount outstanding before your licence can be reinstated. With a suspended licence you will be denied licence plate registration. Please note that under Provincial legislation there is no statute of limitation for the collection of unpaid fines. |
||||||||
Demerit points | ||||||||
Only moving violations have demerit points attached to the conviction. These demerit points are determined and administered by the Ministry of Transportation.
Victim fine surcharge | ||||||||
The provincial government adds a victim surcharge to every fine imposed under the Provincial Offences Act. The proceeds of the Victim Fine Surcharge fund help maintain and expand provincial services to victims of crime.
Summons | ||||||||
You or your representative must appear at the place and time indicated on your summons. |
