The Office of the Independent Police Review Director (OIPRD) receives, oversees, monitors and deals with all public complaints against police in Ontario.
File a complaint
You can file a complaint any of the following ways:
- Make a complaint online.
- Make a complaint in person at any police station in Ontario. Staff at that location will explain the public complaint process. Additional local resolutions (part of the OIPRD process) may also be offered at that time.
- Make a complaint by contacting the OIPRD by phone at 1-877-411-4773 to request a complaint form be sent to you. Once completed and signed, you can mail or deliver the form in person to:

You do not need a lawyer to file your complaint, but a lawyer or legal clinic may provide advice and assistance with your complaint.
Information needed to file a complaint
As well as your full contact details and your date of birth, we ask that you provide the following information, if possible:
- The name of the police service and/or police officer(s) your complaint is about
- The location in Ontario where the incident(s) happened
- The date(s) and time(s) the incident(s) took place
- A description of what happened
