Comprehensive Zoning By-Law
The Zoning By-law, crafted under Section 34 of the Planning Act, is a crucial regulatory instrument overseeing land use and building characteristics in the City of Dryden. It includes such things as size and type of structures permitted on a property, building height, density, parking facilities and landscaping. This By-law was updated and adopted by Council in February 2025, aligning with the Provincial Policy Statement and the new Official Plan. This comprehensive update was a strategic move to modernize, ensuring consistency with current planning principles and addressing the unique needs of the City of Dryden.

You can apply for a zoning amendment by filling out a Zoning By-law Amendment Information and Application Form. This starts the process to amend the by-law to allow a use not previously allowed, or it could change zone regulations. It can take between three to six months to process these amendments.
Committee of Adjustment and minor variances
The Committee of Adjustment is a body appointed by council made up of three members from the community. The committee may consider granting permission or approval to allow a change from the zoning by-law requirements, called a minor variance.
