There are many outdoor spaces to explore in the City of Dryden, such as the Laura Howe Marsh conservation area and two nearby trails.
The Laura Howe Marsh is a wetland habitat made up of water and plants. You can see many types of animals in the area, which vary by season. Wetlands, like the Laura Howe Marsh, have a wider variety of wildlife than any other Ontario habitat!
Animals and aquatic plants you might see in the Laura Howe Marsh area include:
- Spawning fish
- Deer
- Songbirds
- Beavers
- Snakes
- Foxes
- Birds of prey
- Insects
- Frogs
- Great blue herons
- Arrowheads
- Cattails
- Pondweeds
- Reeds
- Water lilies
Trails
There are two trails near the Laura Howe Marsh:
- A short loop, about 400 metres in length (a 20-minute walk)
- A long loop, about 2 kilometres in length(a 1-hour walk)
We recommend trail-goers wear sturdy shoes and seasonal clothing. You should also wear insect repellent from May to early August.
