Proclamation
Please join us at City Hall on Wednesday, January 7th at 10am for a flag raising alongside the Kenora/Rainy River Districts Alzheimer Society.
January – Alzheimer’s Awareness Month
WHEREAS Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias are degenerative brain disorders; and,
WHEREAS every three seconds, someone in the world develops dementia; and
WHEREAS in Canada, 25,000 new cases are diagnosed each year; and,
WHEREAS Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias take their toll on hundreds of thousands of families and caregivers; and,
WHEREAS early diagnosis of dementia helps people live better with dementia and allows them to make important decisions about their future needs; and,
WHEREAS dementia is more than just numbers – it is our friends and neighbours, people we see every day in our community; and,
WHEREAS raising awareness is the first step to fighting stigma, reinforcing human rights and pushing for policy change, as well as other actions that can lift up Canadians living with dementia.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Jack Harrison, on behalf of Dryden City Council, do hereby proclaim the month of January 2026 as “Alzheimer’s Awareness Month” in the City of Dryden, and urge all citizen of our community to become more educated and aware of the far-reaching effects of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
