International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

PROCLAMATION 

THE INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN — NOVEMBER 25

 

 

WHEREAS Gender-Based Violence continues to be a gender inequality rights issue for all women, girls and gender-diverse individuals, and

 

WHEREAS The month of November is Woman Abuse Prevention Month and marks the beginning of the Wrapped in Courage Campaign across Ontario, and

 

WHEREAS November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women marks the beginning of the 16 days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence, ending on December 10th with Human Rights Day, and

 

WHEREAS Gender-based violence is a human rights issue which our community must work together to address, prevent and raise public awareness and education; and

 

WHEREAS On November 25th a Wrapped in Courage flag will be raised in recognition that the courage of individuals experiencing Gender-Based Violence alone is not enough; it takes an entire community and society to make changes to end gender-based violence.

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED

THAT   I, Mayor Jack Harrison, on behalf of Dryden City Council, do HEREBY PROCLAIM November 25th, 2025 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and urge all citizens to recognize this day by taking action to support survivors of gender-based violence and become part of Ontario-wide efforts to end gender-based violence.
